“When someone is baptised, that person is brought to Jesus Christ, and made a member of Christ’s Church. It is a new start to life in which the baptised person is accepted and sealed by God with the Holy Spirit to represent Christ to the world.
As a response to the baptism which God gives us, we and the candidates declare our faith and intention to serve Christ, and ask for God’s continuing grace to support us in the task to which we are called.
When a baptism is of a baby or a child, the baptised receives the love and shared faith of the family to grow up into Christ.”

Baptism & Christening?
In our church, baptism describes the act of pouring water on a person and making them a formal member of the worldwide church. We invite God’s blessing with the words: “I baptise you in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Baptism can only happen once.
To Christen someone means ‘to make them a Christian’. In the Anglican Church we do this through baptism.
So people are baptized during a christening service just as couples are ‘married’ during a ‘wedding’ service.

Celebrating a New Life!
Our church has a service that celebrates the arrival of a new child. It includes an acknowledgement of the child’s name, prayers for the baby and caregiver(s), as well as some beautiful blessings. There is even scope for you to add your own prayers of hope and gratitude.
